If you like religious icons, churches, and architecture, Assisi is a nice gem in the mountains to go visit. Assisi may sound familiar because this is where the famous St. Francis of Assisi was from. This small town filled with architecture is on a mountain top and is a very quiet sort of town. Lots of hills and lots of interesting little shops.

Some sights to see are the St. Francis Bascilla looking over the whole city, St. Clare's Bascilla, and St. Mary of the Angels Bascilla. You can also see the monastery where St. Francis stayed at even higher on the mountain. St. Francis and St. Clare's story is a very romantic one. They were both lovers and came from very rich families but when St. Francis decided to go into the cloth, St. Clare followed against her parent's wishes. If you're not so religious the architecture is just breahtaking. You can see a mix of both Romanesque and Gothic buildings.
