For the best voice and SMS service I'd recommend the
Iridium Satellite Phone For data intensive applications I would recommend the
Thuraya Satellite Phone. I just returned from Mexico City and the outlying areas and only used the Iridium a few times since my Verizon service was picking up in the bigger cities. I wouldn't rely on cell service in Mexico though its pretty spotty.
