I don't think you'd be too unhappy with either side of Sardinia in September, weather-wise. That's a great time of year to visit.

Alghero is my suggestion for you, as far as cities go, and it's in the north(west). I've never been to the Pula area, sorry, though I've *heard* they're quite nice.
