Chile is an amazing country and you'll have a great time! no reason to be concerned the people are friendly and its pretty easy to get around.

Atacama in the north is very popular for tourists and the altiplano lakes of the Valley of the Moon. Arica is a nice beach town as well as Vina del Mar. If you have the money you should visit Easter Island and see the Moais. Sounds like a great trip!
