Default Re: Buying a house in Mexico

OK, maybe there are stupid questions.

But then again, maybe not. Of course they speak Spanish in Mexico, but also of course, more and more Mexicans are learning to speak English. In most large cities, you will always be able to find someone to speak English. And certainly in a real estate transaction, you can and should get an agent and a lawyer who can explain things to you in English. Here in Merida, many of the notarios (lawyers) speak English.

What was the other question? Is it safe?

Safe is relative, but Merida is known as the safest city in Mexico. In a city of a million people, there were 26 murders last year. Compare that with Houston, a city of four million has over 300 murders. Which do you think is safer? I know what I think...

Anyway, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
