Most people would say that need an organized tour to do the Everest Base Camp trek, but I can tell you that you can do this trek on your own..I have done it without a guide. Of course, you can go with any of the many trekking companies located in Thamel (Kathmandu). It will cost you about $80 per day if you go with a trekking company. If you want to go it alone you need to remember that you will need a trekking permit. you can get one from Nepal visitors bureau or any tour operator registered with TAAN.
