I prefer San Francisco trip for around 6-8 days as it will give you the time to visit almost every interesting place. I've been to San Francisco twice and my trip was around 7-10 days. I will recommend the San Francisco City Pass to you, because you'll get to visit several attractions and get to go on a cruise of the Bay. Don't miss the city's most popular attraction Fisherman's Wharf which overlooks San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. The nearby attractions Pier 39, The Cannery, and Ghirardelli Square are also excellent places to visit.

You should definitely visit Chinatown, do the audio version of the Alcatraz cruise tour which incorporates a Bay cruise and an actual tour of the old prison, do the Gray line hop-on-and-off tour and go to Twin Peaks. Don’t forget to visit the Monterey/Carmel.

I also recommend a weekend out in wine country might be a good way to enjoy more. Go find a nice place, relax, and take a tasting tour. After that, come back to town and head back on home.
