Re: Places to visit Here are the attraction in Bejing, I think it would be helpful for you The Great Wall, symbolizing China's ancient civilization, is one of the world's most renowned projects. Construction of the Wall first began during the period of the Warring States (476 - 221 BC). Historical records show that about 1 million people, one-fifth of China's population at the time, were involved in the project which took more than ten years. When it was finished we call it "Wan Li Chang Cheng" which means "Ten Thousand-Li-Long Wall".
Situated in the western outskirts of Haidian District, the Summer Palace is 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) from central Beijing. Having the largest royal park and being well preserved, it was designated, in 1960 by the State Council, as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Site of China. Containing examples of the ancient arts, it also has graceful landscapes and magnificent constructions. The Summer Palace is the archetypal Chinese garden, and is ranked amongst the most noted and classical gardens of the world. In 1998, it was listed as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Ancient Observatory, situated at the southeast corner of Beijing's Jianguomen Bridge, was initially built circa 1442, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its rich history spans more than five hundred years, making it one of the most historically interesting observatories in the world. The Temple of Heaven is a worthwhile visiting place in Beijing. The Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. |
