The World War II Memorial, which opened to the public on April 29, 2004, is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C,
at what was once the Rainbow Pool, centered between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
I`m sure your father will love to see that, the heart of the solemn monument is an oval-shaped pool complete with fountains.
Granite pillars that circle the pool and plaza are labeled with the names of each U.S. state and territory that contributed to the war effort.
A wall on the monument's west side is emblazoned with 4,000 gold stars representing the 400,000 Americans that were killed in the war.
Domed pavilions labeled "Atlantic" and "Pacific" mark the north and south edges of the monument and draw attention to the conflict's global reach.
Directions/Parking: Farragut West is the closest Metro stop. From the corner of 17th and I streets, walk south on 17th. The memorial will be on your right.
I hope this helps, enjoy your day out with your father.
