Default Key West - Drive/No Drive

I lived in Key West for almost ten years and worked as a charter captain the entire time and as head of the Innkeepers Association for two years so I know the place really well. What I always recommend to friends of mine is to do a one way car rental and dump the car there. While the ride through all the Keys can be incredibly beautiful particularly at sunrise and sunset, the main road down the Keys is two lanes only, for the most part and limited to 35 mph for about 100 miles. That gets old, believe me. On top of that, beyond the beauty you will see you will also have to suffer through quite a bit of very trashy type roadside the whole way down. People who live in the Keys are an odd and interesting bunch but being "islanders" they typically never throw anything away and simply put it in the front yard on the off chance that some day they might need that particular item.
