You'll definitely save time by flying but if your girlfriend really doesn't want to fly then you do have some other options.
You could take an sleeper bus from Buenos Aires to Salta so that the trip doesn't seem so long (but 20 hours is still a long time to travel!), or like you suggested, break the trip up a bit. One interesting place to stop at is Córdoba which is a little over a third of the way to Salta. You could also visit Rosario before going to Córdoba, but you'll find more exotic things the closer you get to Salta. To break up the trip from Córdoba to Salta, maybe spend a day or two in Tucumán.
Renting a car is another option. The advantage is that you'll be able to break up the trip however you like but the disadvantages are that you'll feel more tired and will have to cope with the hectic traffic of Buenos Aires at the start of your journey. |
