I've made this trip about 100 times in my life. It takes 2.5 hours on average to drive from NYC to Atlantic City. On off peak travel times like later at night or early am you can do it in 2 hours.

Traveling from Atlantic City to New York City, you'll take the Garden State Parkway North to the NJ Turnpike North to the Lincoln Tunnel and you arrive in Midtown Manhattan.

Avoid Rush Hour and New Jersey Northern points arrival time. Asbury Park, Long Branch etc

PS - you may want to consider the new Express Train from AC to NYC that will beging this spring 2008.
