You could then arrange your trip to Lake Titicaca as there are several places in Santiago where you could book this, or would you rather travel from the Salt Flats to the Lake?

As far as travelling on your own is concerned traveling alone for females seems to be ok, It is common to see many females traveling alone.

It is always possible to find travel partners for this type of trip if you are feeling unsure. Doing as much research as you can squeeze into your life before you go helps to reap great rewards later on. Learning about your destination(s) allows you to have a good idea of what to expect and therefore a solid foundation on which to begin your adventure. Learning about the fundamental cultural differences is essential, and learning a few words of the language doesn't go amiss either.
Getting lost can open the door to an even more eventful adventure than you bargained for, but it can often happen at the most inopportune times. A good map is invaluable and so is some knowledge of the public transport system. For more information you could check out the Health and Safety section of the website.
