Portland hotels are nice but my favorite hotels are Monaco and Fifth Avenue Suites Hotel, downtown. I have stayed at 5 different hotels in downtown Portland over the past 5 years, but I always recommend these two to all my workmates and friends. Monaco is little bit expensive but the services are wonderful. I'm not sure about your budget, so recommending only two. You said you have a car, may be parking is expensive, we haven't been there with a car, so no idea about the parking charge. Downtown hotels are closure to Gardens, Museum, shopping and good eats, you can walk everywhere!
