It's been awhile since I left Arizona, but I grew up in Tempe not far from the zoo. The desert botanical gardens are close by the zoo and are really nice. There is also a park right by the zoo where you can do light hiking and a natural red rock arch which you can easily get to. Also around the zoo there is a nice little pond where you can relax and feed ducks. Another option is a stroll down Mill Avenue in Tempe (short drive) where there is lots of little shops and restaurants.
Enjoy the zoo! As a little girl my favorite exhibit there was the alligators. I remember it being really big….but that was a while ago. |
