camping in Alaska

Has anyone done camping in Alaska and would you recommend it? I heard about polar bear attacks, can they happen? if so, how do you deal with bear attacks?

any other tips, suggestions please share:)

One thing you can't avoid when camping in Alaska are bears roaming around. Bears are not there to attack you but more so for the food you're carrying. Therefore, make sure that you keep your tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping area free from smelly foods, and preferably don't keep foods in your sleeping tent.

Regarding campgrounds, many campgrounds have amenities such as stores and showers, though if you're new camping in Alaska, I'd suggest staying in a camp ground near downtown of Anchorage and Fairbanks such as the Eklutna Lake Campground and the Harding Lake State Recreation Area.
