| Hi All, Wife and I will be flying to Alaska for a week beginning April 17, 2008. Can anyone tell us what to expect for climate conditions and need we worry about motel/hotel reservations (we would like to make them on the fly while we're driving around)?? We will be renting a car for a week and plan to drive from Anchorage to Tok, Fairbanks, Denali and back to Anchorage. Possibly drive down to Kenai and Seward. Any suggestions, advice on traveling plus the motel/hotel situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike & Mary |

Hey Mike & Mary, My husband Dale & I will be there April 13-20. We too are renting a car and are planning the same itinerary. I am having trouble making arrangements ahead of time. Everyone who has responded to us has said it is a "play it by ear" time as it will all be dependent on the weather and if they have early/late spring. Also, most tours will not be running. Hotels/gas on Glenn to Tok and Fairbanks will be few and far between so we are told. If you get more information, please share and we will do likewise. We so want to take a flight around McKinley. If you decide to go to Talkeetna (we plan on getting there April 17 - stay 2 nights in hopes of getting good weather for a flight), make sure you give yourself 2 days in case the weather doesn't cooperate and look around town for another couple to share the flight with as it will save you over $100. Everyone says it was the highlight of their Alaska trip. You can e-mail me at trishwalker@roadrunner.com. | |
