Im looking into trains in Alaska and although there are several running from Anchorage i am not seeing one which goes to Homer... i will continue to look though. However, there are lots of bus companies that have this route as part of their schedule. One of the companies that offer this service is 'Stage Line'.

For more information on the trains in Alaska Train Tour page would be helpful to you.

No there is no train that runs from Anchorage to Homer

The train runs from the Port of Seward, where most cruise ships dock. To Anchorage, then up to Fairbanks. Then returns. This is a very nice way to see Alaska. It's about 12 hours from Anchorage to Fairbanks

There is a small spur line that runs from Anchorage to Whitter, which is about 60 miles South of Anchorage. Seward to Anchorage is about 6 to 8 hours or so

The only way to get to Homer is to Drive, or fly. Their are flights from Anchorage I would guess the RT fare would be about $200.00 to $250 Check ERA Aviation which is a code share with Alaska. They fly Turbo Prop Aircraft.

You can drive and it's a very beautiful drive at that. If you go straight through it's about an 8 hour drive. Plan on many stops and it could be a 2 day drive. The road goes through many types of Alaska terrain and the Kenai Peninsula is Alaska's play ground, as it's so close to Anchorage and offers excellent fishing for Salmon and Halibut along with the crowds. This is where combat fishing got it's name. Due to the amount of people on the streams. However good cheer is the name of the game and everyone seems to get along just fine. If your looking for less populated areas, well go north my friend go north. The drive and Homer are well worth a few days of anyone's stay in Alaska. Be careful on the road, sometimes people in a hurry get behind motor homes going slowly and get impatient. Motor homes with 6 or more cars behind them, have to pull over and let the cars pass, state law.
Enjoy!

Hope this helps.
