| Hi, my husband is in the air force and we'll be moving to Elmendorf AFB in November. We plan to drive from Washington to Alaska. What preparations should we make for a drive in the winter? What should we do to our car so it'll survive the trip and the freezing temperatures? I've heard about having to plug in your car.. what's that about? |

| Hi there, To ensure you are prepared for the trip, you'd want ideally to get the car checked out by an expert. It is important specially to get the car fluids such as the oil, power steering, brake fluid, etc, checked out and also, the battery, belts and so on. In case of an emergency, please equip the car with a tool kit, torch, flares, first aid kit and thick blankets. It may all see like a lot to carry but when you are traveling in zero degrees temperature you cannot take any chances. You may also require tire chains, so it is best you contact your mechanic for advise on this. For what I understand, you plug the car to warm the engine so it is easier to be started. Some cars have a heater on the engine block which can be connected ('plugged') to be able to do this. Hope this helps VacationBuddy Last edited by VacationBuddy; 03-15-2009 at 12:44 PM. | Junior Member | I'm thinking of buying this and was wondering how many of you may have tried it/are using it and your comments or feedback. In other words; does it actually work 100% like it states in the sales page? The videos are pretty believable but I just want to be sure before I lay down the dough... |

| First you ensure the condition of your vehicle to sustain in winters, have some first aid becasue its very necessary during travel. Stress and strain of Vehicle increases greatly during the winters.Cold weather is hard on batteries keep them hot somehow. yes visibilty is other imp part. keep your eyes on safe drive. |
