| Hi:I'm planning to travel from Miami to Chile in the middle of Nov.I think it is the way to go, for those that have experienced it,once that I get to Chile which are the most important places to visit? On my way to Argentina I'd like to fly to La Quiaca and then travel down to Patagonia(visiting by bus the provinces of Jujuy all the way down to Patagonia(Neuquen, Bariloche etc)In your opinion should I have a problem weatherwise?.I undestand that not being high season in the NW I should not have problem finding accomodations. My idea is to stay in argentina until april or may and if possible spend some time in Uruguay and purchase my return ticket there,(what's your opinion),Each and every suggestion is very important to me,I have never been in Chile and I'm a bit concern. Many thanks in advance for taking the time to reply..............parigi. |

| Chile is an amazing country and you'll have a great time! no reason to be concerned the people are friendly and its pretty easy to get around. Atacama in the north is very popular for tourists and the altiplano lakes of the Valley of the Moon. Arica is a nice beach town as well as Vina del Mar. If you have the money you should visit Easter Island and see the Moais. Sounds like a great trip! |

| Member Jr Member | Hi! As the previous post says, Chile is great and people is really friendly. My favorite destination in Chile is Torres del Paine in the southern Patagonia, next to Argentina's Perito Moreno Glacier (El Calafate). If I were you, I would start from Santiago de Chile to the north (Arica, Iquique and Atacama Dessert), cross by bus to Salta in Argentina and visit the region. If you are accostumed to travel by land, there is a bus going from Tucuman to Iguazu Falls. Travel the way south to Buenos Aires, have some days at leisure enjoying this amazing city and continue to Patagonia (Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Torres del Paine, El Calafate and El Chalten). You can then head north by Route 40 to Bariloche (Lake District), cross to Puerto Montt in Chile, continue your travels along Chile to Chiloe Island, Valdivia, Pucon, cross the border back to San Martin de los Andes in Argentina. Bus to Mendoza, spend some time enjoying the argentine wine region and travel back to Buenos Aires from where it's easy to catch a ferry and leave to Uruguay... Many people would love doing this trip... Weather won't be a problem from November to April...

| Thanks folks for all you input - we have travelled in earlier years to the countries north of Argentina and Chile. Now we stick to Argentina an Chile because we like this region very much and are never tired of travelling there. Always we explore new routes and discover phantastic places. The places you have mentioned in Chile we have been several times and we will return again. But for the tour in November we just go the northern part of Patagonia. There are many places to go which still are not yet so well known and therefore more quiet. Did you ever hear of National Park Nahuel Buta (Chile), Lago Budi Indian Reserve (Chile), Lagunas Epulaufquen (Argentina), Canon Artreuco (Argentina), National Park Volcan Tromen, Provincial Park Volcan Payun, and many more to find in the northwest part of the province Neuquen and Chile's Lake Region with all the Volcans. Let's explore all this before it gets crowded. |
