Argentina

Argentina is filled with lush rainforests, wild animals, and mountainous terrain. Transportation is key with such a large country, many tourists choose to take a train few travel by car. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Argentina is home to the Andes Mountains. Enjoy trekking trips, skiing or snowboarding.

Default cycling in Argentina

I will be in Argentina from november 2006 till april 2007. I want to go cycling in Patagonia. Seems a thrill. Any experience there? We are experienced cyclists. Went to China, Vietnam, Spain and Italy (ROME on a bike!!!). But ... these distances make me doubt this plan.

Hi Helena,

Sounds like you've been on some fantasic journeys! and I'm sure our visitors to Europe would love to see a Trip Report on your Rome trip:

Ok on to your question I personally have not cycled Patagonia but people do it all the time and you have the time so why not!

Yan and Ben did a primarly Chilean bike trip in 04 and documented their amazing journey with fantastic notes at http://www.waterdropfilms.com/travel...004/diary.html. I think their notes section you might find useful since the climate and terrain is very similar.

These folks have paid bike trips that will give you some good ideas of the segments.

Here's a huge collection of bike journeys in the Americas that you can pick through
http://www.swb.de/personal/elch/e_amerika.html#AMERIKA

You may find by piecing together a few of these adventures together you'll come up with our own unique adventure to share with us. If your looking for a tour group then we can certainly help out but I get the feeling you don't want to be tied down to a group.

Let me know if there's anything we can do.

Cheers,
Dan

Who knows how much help this would be, but I found this site which sounds a lot like what you might enjoy doing, plus they've got some great images up. I've never cycled Patagonia myself (though it sounds/looks like a blast!) These guys traveled a little under 2000 km. How much riding were you looking to do?

What a good idea,

Patagonia cycling, what a cool trip.

I am not too much into cycling but have seen people doing it also in the Uyuni Salt plains in Bolivia.

What I also know is we at www.peruforless.com will by all means be able to assist you and even provide a quote for services in both countries. You will not find this specific info on the website but you can also write an email at travel@peruforless.com for more infromation. Costumized trips are what we are about.

Helena, make sure you do something along Route 40 from Bariloche to El Chalten, there are great places... The route is not paved and there are not many people or vehicles passing by so it should be hard... Imagine that when we take groups of tourists along that route, we make stops in our way, stop engines and all they can hear is wind and wind, some birds and more wind... let me know if you need any kind of particular information of the area... Good luck!
