Hi, I am travelling to Argentina in October with some friends. I have some days by myself at the end of the trip and was considering visiting the Iguazu Falls. However, I have seen many contradictory information on the water level - low or normal? - and I am not sure whether it's worth going there (at this stage). Can someone help here? Also, I am planning to travel from there to Rio, by bus, probably stopping somewhere in route so that I can make it a 2 nights trip - again recommendations are welcomed on where to stop AM

Iguazu falls are the world’s largest set of waterfalls located in the bottom corner of Brazil on the border of Argentina. I've been to the falls twice, most recently in October, the falls nearly dried up. I was very disappointed and the zodiac boat ride was not offered during my stay because the river level was too low to permit it. My friend told me that the best time to see the falls at full strength is during the rainy season that is from November to February. Water levels will be at their lowest in March, August, September and October. So organize your trip in November or December. It is very easy to go from Iguazu to the Argentinian side. A taxi would cost you about $20 to $30. You can even go with public transportation, taking a local bus from Iguazu to the city centre terminal of Foz do Iguacu, and changing there to another bus to the other side of the border. A bus travel can take a full day, but my suggestion is travel by plane since the distance is very long. Have a nice journey!

| Member Jr Member | Hi! I just wanted to mentioned that the problem with the water level in Iguazu took place in Sep / Oct 2006... The level is now normal (probably higher than normal as it's been raining for a while)... To travel from Iguazu to Rio, there are direct buses ("cama" service)... or you may like to go to Florianopolis first for a couple of days and then, Rio... Buen Viaje!

Ana, did you visit the falls in October then? Were you impressed? I think Iguazú falls are amazing, and the flora and fauna there is interesting too (thousands of butterflies and we saw a rattlesnake on the road to the park..)

A tip for anyone else considering on visiting the falls: If you need a visa for Brazil then make sure you apply for it in advance. It's great to visit both the Argentinian and Brazilian side of the falls and actually you may find the hotels cheaper on the Brazilian side.
