Argentina

Argentina is filled with lush rainforests, wild animals, and mountainous terrain. Transportation is key with such a large country, many tourists choose to take a train few travel by car. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Argentina is home to the Andes Mountains. Enjoy trekking trips, skiing or snowboarding.

Default holidays and National Parks

Hi,

We are planning a vacation to Argentina in December. Some of the places we plan to visit are Trelew, Ushuaia, El Calafate, Salta and of course Buenos Aires. We most likely will spend Christmas in Trelew and New Years in Ushuaia. Will the national parks (specifically the penguin reserves and Tierra del Fuego) be open on these holidays?

Thanks!
Susannah and Michael

Hi Susannah and Michael,

Good question, here's some information...

- Tierra del Fuego National Park (Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia) stays open during the holidays (24th, 25th, 31st December and 1st January).
- Punta Tombo Reserve (Reserva provincial Punta Tombo, south of Trelew) stays open during the holidays (24th, 25th, 31st December and 1st January).
- Glaciers National Park (Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Glaciar Perito Moreno, El Calafate) stays open during the holidays (24th, 25th, 31st December and 1st January).

Some travel agencies may charge an extra fee if you take your tour during those days as some tour guides charge more for working on a holiday.

If you are taking airport transfers during holidays in the frame time between 9pm and 7am, make sure you book them in advance as you will find yourselves paying lot of $$ to the only taxi available at the airport...

Let me know if you need further information, I lived and worked in Patagonia before and can assist you planning your trip... :-)
