Hi, We are planning a trip to Argentina for a month in Jan 2007. My husband, three kids and I would like to visit Iguazu Falls. We are Canadian...is it absolutely necessary to get a visa to cross over to the Brazilian side of the falls for the day? thanks Sondra

hi sondra, The Argentina Passport & Visa Requirements for Canadians are: A valid passport but no visa for stays up to three months, providing the visit is for touristic purposes only. So if you're visiting for less than 90 days and have a valid passport, you should be ok. Also, remember that you'll also need proof of your return ticket. You'll want to check with the Embassy of Argentina in Canada to ensure that the requirements don't change before you leave for your trip, the site here has the phone number.

If you need a visa for Brazil then yes, it is essential to get one before trying to cross over the border at Iguazú - they do check your passport. You could risk it and hope they let you over anyway but I wouldn't risk it.
