Argentina

Argentina is filled with lush rainforests, wild animals, and mountainous terrain. Transportation is key with such a large country, many tourists choose to take a train few travel by car. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Argentina is home to the Andes Mountains. Enjoy trekking trips, skiing or snowboarding.

Red face Things to do around BsAs.

Hola,

We are going to spend some time in BsAS to study Spanish again. End of January we have 10 days over to visit some intressting places. We would like to go to Salta, Ruta 40, Salinas etc..

Now our problem to proceed with our plans:
My girlfreind doesn't like to fly from BsAs to Salta, because she heard some rumors about the bad condtion and maintanence of the airplanes, which are in service there. Is it true? There are only old airplane in service? Which airline is the best to use? Any experince?

On the other hand, a bus trip to get there needs around 19 hours per way. I do not like to spent so much time of my vacation in a bus. Is it possible to stop over somewhere else on the way to Salta to have a break or so? Like a big round trip and Salta is just "on the Road" ?

Thank you for your help.

Thomas

Ps. orry for my bad English.

I can recommend things to do in Buenos Aires. For example, wine tastings in Buenos Aires are an excellent way to learn about Argentinean wines. Also I recommend you learn the typical food from the culture by taking a cooking class in Buenos Aires
Good luck!

hi! if you are going to spend 10 days in Argentina you would waste 2 days traveling by bus when you can enjoy them in the salta, tucuman or jujuy area... it is safe to travel by plane in argentina, the problem was related to the bad operation of the buenos aires airport radar... there are two airlines Aerolineas Argentinas and Lan Argentina. in the way from buenos aires to salta, if overlanding, you can stop in cordoba.

I recently travelled by bus from BA to Salta and it is no problem at all. Take the cama/ejecutivo category and you will be fine. Since you travel during the night you are not losing valuable vacation time as compared to flying.

Hi Thomas,

You'll definitely save time by flying but if your girlfriend really doesn't want to fly then you do have some other options.

You could take an sleeper bus from Buenos Aires to Salta so that the trip doesn't seem so long (but 20 hours is still a long time to travel!), or like you suggested, break the trip up a bit. One interesting place to stop at is Córdoba which is a little over a third of the way to Salta. You could also visit Rosario before going to Córdoba, but you'll find more exotic things the closer you get to Salta. To break up the trip from Córdoba to Salta, maybe spend a day or two in Tucumán.

Renting a car is another option. The advantage is that you'll be able to break up the trip however you like but the disadvantages are that you'll feel more tired and will have to cope with the hectic traffic of Buenos Aires at the start of your journey.

Default Driving in Argentina

I should add, if you're considering renting a car then it's best to bring an international license along with your standard (national) drivers license.

Hello,
I just returned from Buenos Aires and I see someone on this thread recommended to take cooking classes. I attended Cooking With Teresita for a 6 day cooking program. I highly recommend this place to those looking to learn the local cuisine.
