Default Grand Canyon Vacation

If someone has never been to the Grand Canyon before what would you recommend doing? Where to stay? etc. What do I need to do to have the best trip possible?

Smile Re: Grand Canyon Vacation

There is so much to see there but here are some of the good places you can visit. East Rim Drive Scenic drive on the East Rim of the Grand Canyon, Tusayan Ruins and Museum- History museum; Ancient ruins, Lava Falls-Located on the Colorado River, Lava Falls has very challenging rapids-Attraction type: River; Hiking trail.
Tuweep-This campsite is an abandoned town that was originally built in the 1920s-Attraction type: Ghost town; Mysterious site.
Rim Trail-Scenic and level walking trail, which is easy enough to bring the kids-Attraction type: Trail; Hiking trail.
Hermit Road / West Rim Drive at the South Rim-Not to be confused with "Grand Canyon West" (the Hualapai tribe's native lands, located outside of the boundary of the National Park),-Attraction type: Scenic drive; Canyon, nice but Very expensive.
Grandview Trail-This narrow trail leading to a 7,400 promontory is very popular for the first half mile or so, then it becomes a lot more rugged-Attraction type: Hiking trail. Cape Royal Drive-Many of the Grand Canyon's most spectacular panoramas can be viewed along this scenic drive, including Point Imperial and Cape Royal itself (elevation 7,865 feet,) the southernmost viewpoint on the North Rim-Attraction type: Scenic drive.
Historic Navajo Bridge-Stretching more than 750 feet in length, this graceful bridge rises 470 feet above the Colorado River-Attraction type: Bridge; Historic site.
Rainbow Rim Trail-Located on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, this moderate-to-difficult hiking and biking trail is 18 miles in length, with no grade over 10 percent, and connects five scenic overlooks: Parissawampitts, Fence, Locust, North Timp and Timp-Attraction type: Hiking trail; Biking trail (mountain).
Air Grand Canyon-Take your camera and video camera and get a glimpse of the Grand Canyon from the comfort and unbeatable viewpoint of a small aircraft. Tours range from 20-90 minutes and are priced from $74 per person-.Attraction type: Tour.
The bulk of Grand Canyon hotels are located just outside the park’s limits and along the area’s main roads. Other Grand Canyon hotels can be found in the nearby town of Williams and in Flagstaff. Williams is just 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon’s Southern entrance, while Flagstaff is approximately 75 miles away. If you are looking to find accommodations within the park, you will have to book a room at one of the Grand Canyon lodges, which are covered in the Grand Canyon Lodging article. Most of these lodges are found at the park’s South Rim, while the notable Grand Canyon Lodge is situated at the canyon’s less-visited North Rim. It is important to note that any Grand Canyon hotel reservations should be made well in advance, especially during the busy summer months when rooms are harder to come by. You will typically find that when making Grand Canyon hotel reservations in the winter, the rates often decrease significantly.
