I think snorkeling and diving are the best ways to get up-close and personal to the Great Barrier Reef and its marine life. I did a cruise of the GBR from Cairns to Lizard Island which also included a trip on shore the island and a scuba trip which hubby did but I miss out!

If you don't fancy a cruise, you can book a Great Barrier Reef tour with an Australian based tour provider who will offer coral reef tours and day trips for local and international tourists.

A good tip too is to get in touch with the Queensland Tourist Centre. They can advise you on the best ways to see the Great Barrier Reef. Have fun out there! :-)

reef trips from Cairns are a very popular way to see the Great Barrier Reef. It's pretty good value as well.
