Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas will be the Caribbean's largest destination resort. Baha Mar located in Nassau, Bahamas on a 1,000- acre site – Baha Mar will cost more than $2 billion. Its a joint venture 57% owned by Baha Mar Resorts Ltd. and 43% by a subsidiary of Harrah's Entertainment. The joint venture partners will also be Starwood hotels has committed to operate hotels under its W, St. Regis, Westin and Sheraton brands at Baha Mar, Baha Mar Bahamas will bring a new large scale development to Nassau's Cable Beach area of New Providence Island. Construction is set to begin in 2007 and the phase one is scheuled to open in 2011.

Baha Mar Bahamas does look like quite an impressive development for the Bahamas. Do you know if they are under construction yet? I've seen many of these projects over the years fizzle out.

I read recently that the first hotel (the Sheraton) opened up on Cable Beach as part of the Baha Mar project. Great to see it moving forward and I look forward to visiting.
