| I am trying to find out what beaches in Rio de Janeiro will be best for water activities and surfing and not too far from the downtown area. Can someone suggest any? |

| hi, Botafogo Beach is quite popular and it is not far from the downtown area although it's not very touristy. Arpoador Beach is excellent for surfing waves, and the good thing is that surfers are the main visitors here so they beach is not very busy. Check the link for more beaches in Rio de Janeiro |
