I believe in 2008 Ash Wednesday is on Feb 6th, so Carnival should be help from Feb 2nd - Feb 5th, 2008. If you're thinking of booking early...you've probably got the right idea.

In Rio de Janeiro the carnival, officially, finishes the 0:00 hours of Feb . 6th, however there are lots of blocks and bands that continue presenting itself until Feb. 10th (besides in Feb 9th there be the parade of the champion schools)

Hi, anyone out there going to carnival that would keen possibly sharing the carnival/ Rio experience with me? I'm a 23 year old female from Australia, travelling overseas for the first time and going on my lonesome! Really excited but anxious too!! I like this forum idea, as it takes a lot of the nerves away just chatting people who are much in the same boat! xx

You definitely have to experience the Rio Carnival once in your life! But once you have, try one of the carnivals further north in the country for a more authentic (less touristy) feel.
