Default Travelling with a child

I am trying to organise a trip to Brazil with my wife and 18 month old son.
We only have 2 weeks to fit everything in which will include visiting my brother in Salvador.
Want to see Rio de Janeiro and possibly get a surf. If not, some beach time will be needed.

Any tips on traveling with a young one in Brazil and given the short time we have, what will be the best things to do and see?

Thanks

Dave

Wow, only 18 months old, what an experience it'd be for the little one!

If you're traveling with a young one I'd advice to check with your GP to see which shots are required and if there are any medical warnings in Brazil. Do this as soon as because most inoculations take a week or two to take effect.

Besides this, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of activities to keep kids busy in Brazil. In fact, Brazilians take their children everywhere so you'll feel comfortable doing the same.

There lots of things to see and do in Brazil and I can suggest visiting Leblon and the zoo in Rio as it offers a free play area with toys for toddlers. There is also the Native American Museum (Museu do Indio) in Botafogo where children can play with stamps and body paints to create native designs.

By the way, if you don't mind me asking...are you planning to stay with your brother, or in a hotel?

Thanks for the tips.
We will be staying in a neighbors house when we visit my brother in Salvador. He is having a baby, hence the reason for the visit. Other than that, we will be in hotels. Do you think will we need to bring a portable cot or will most hotels have these?
Traveling with the little one will be interesting - the longest flight we have had him on is 5 hours - it will take many more from Australia...
Thanks again

Most hotels in Brazil are geared towards adults. However, all inclusive hotels in Brazil do cater for families. Places like Club Med Rio das Pedras is a good option if you want to be close to Rio de Janeiro, and it is arguably the best all inclusive Brazil resort for kids.

Regarding cots, cots are normally available in kid-friendly hotels at no extra cost and babysitting can be also arranged.

Just to say it is ok to travel even with young children, just a matter of getting organised with the right persons ;-)

Default get visas for brazil

going to brazil with kids isn't so bad, though like the last poster said it's down to planning and organizing visas and so on. if you're kids are US citizens they must travel with a valid US passport and a Brazil tourist visa. you can get visas in advance at the Brazilian Embassy or the nearest Consulate, as visas will not be issued at the airport and will be stamped directly into the passport.
