Best place for christmas in Brazil

I am going to Brazil this December and doing Iguassu and guided tour for two weeks then spending Christmas & New year with a friend. can anyone suggest a good place to spend Christmas? Maybe an island beach resort or somewhere pretty but relaxing or would it be better to just stay in Rio for this busy time? Also any suggestons on accomodation mid price range and whether to book now?

I have a nice codo on the Island of Itapirica off the coast of Salvador Bahia Brazil. It's a place with little to do but has lots of people at the complex on the water and Christmas and New Years eve parties and they cost nothing if your staying there. I and others rent our condos.
