Default Train or Bus to Iguassu

Has anyone had experience with taking a train or bus from Rio de Janeiro to Iguassu Falls? I am considering this as a way to "see the countryside" on the way to the Falls rather than flying. If such a service is available, what company should I contact? I have so far been unsuccessful in finding information online about this. Thanks.

Hi All,

You've asked a good question. Here's the first response but I would expect more to follow.

Eucatur does offer bus transportation on from Rio to Iguassu Falls. This site is hard to navigate but it will get you there. http://redeastor.viacaogarcia.com.br/

I personally flew into Iguassu Falls since distances in Brazil are so vast. My best guess is that the distance would be approx 1000-1200 kilometers.

To answer a few questions that may come up when takign the bus I've prepared this FAQ.

How long is the journey Rio and how much doe sit cost?
From Rio to Iguassu Falls will cost approximately USD $75.00. There are no sleeper busses - only executive busses. Travel time approx 22 hours.

Where do buses depart in Rio de Janeiro?
In Rio you will depart from the Novo-Rio Terminal Rodoviario (Bus station) - it also has connection shuttles from and to GIG - Congonhas airport and SDU - Santos Dumont Airport.

How long is the journey and how much does it cost from Sao Paulo?
From Sao Paulo to Iguassu Falls will cost approximately US $79.00 for leito (sleeper bus - Pluma). Conventional or executive busses will cost approximately US $49.00. Travel time - 16 hours. From Sao Paulo, buses normally depart in the evening and arrive the next morning.

Post What to read first?

Hi everyone, I just signed up on this forum this week.

I'm sorry for asking, but I wanted to ask if anyone could show me any particularly important posts that I should take a look at first, so I can get involved here?

Thanks in advance, Michael

No need to be sorry. Just find the destination you want to ask about and post your question similar to how you posted a reply to this post. We'd be glad to help you!

Came across this dated link and thought I might offer some info to help freshen things up perhaps. First off, a bus or train ride from Rio to Iguassu is very time consuming (a full day more or less), so many travelers hope to execute the trip by way of plane. Some of the flights from Rio to Iguassu, if I'm not mistaken, stop in Curitiba before continuing on their way, while others are direct. Also something to think about are travel packages that include some time in Rio and a visit to the Iguassu Falls. These packages can make life easy, as they virtually take care of everything that is necessary (i.e. transportation, most or some of your meals, and accommodations).
