Since they're in the southern hemisphere, keep in mind that the seasons are reversed in Brazil (assuming you're writing from the US/Nothern Hemisphere). I've heard August is the best month as far as bargains go (which would be winter in Brazil). That being said, areas of the year where lots of US travelling is taking place (ie Winter break...which is during Brazil's summer) are going to cost ya.

Try this site. Not sure where you're flying from or to, but it seems ot have some good deals. Also try Hotwire. As Joe said, the seasons are reversed, but the typical US vacationer does travel a bit during Brazil's winter (our summer)...especially if kids are involved, so that's not a guarantee things will be cheaper. Fall/Spring might be a good bet because it's not Brazil's peak season weather-wise, but it's also not America's peak season, travel-wise. I too would definitely stay away from December if you're looking for a good deal.

My recommendation is to travel on the shoulder season after the US summer travel season and before the holiday travel season. Or after the holiday season and before US summer travel season begins. Thats generally going to get you the best rates. Don't go around Carnaval unless you want to spend a forture!
