Angry Brazilian Visa

Three weeks ago, I booked a cruise going to Rio from Lisbon (Nov 5th). I was preparing
to do the Visa Applications and got the shock of my life - Passport must be valid for 6 months from date of travel .. I have a Canadian Passport and it expires Feb 15, 2007.

Does anyone know if the 6 month thing is for everyone - or US Passport holders?

If I need a new passport (Canada does not renew theirs) then I have to go to Canada to get
that done in the next week or so.

I wrote the Brazilian Consulate twice but have not received a reply.

Thanks, Daun

Default Re: Brazilian Visa

That is a shocker. I don't have good news.. here's what I found:

Brazil Visa Information
To enter Brazil, U.S. and Canadian Citizens must obtain a TOURIST visa. Brazilian consulates will process visa applications at any one of the Brazilian Consulates if the applicant applies in person. You will be required to provide a) a valid passport (for at least 6 months prior to its expiration date); b) a signed visa application form; c) one recent photograph; d) a photocopy of your round trip ticket to Brazil; and e) a fee Ð U.S. citizens are charged a processing fee of approximately $110. Normally a tourist visa will be issued in 2-10* business days and are generally valid for 90 days from the first entry, renewable for another period of up to 90 days by the Brazilian Federal Police.
