Brazil

Brazil is host to modern cities, sunny beaches, the Amazon River, and colonial towns. The Amazon provides nature lovers with jungle tours and river boat tours. Rio de Janiero has a combination of beaches, sports, sun, gardens and perfect for those looking for fun in the sun during the day and dancing in the night.

Default good places to see?

So I am traveling to Brazil in August and I know there are tons of great places to see but I am only going to be there for a week so I was wondering what places that I should definitely not miss while I was there. I am flying into Rio and I really want to go see the Iguassu Falls. I have been looking into it and I was wondering if flying was the best way to get around, and if it was really expensive? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Sarah.

Iguazú Falls is a must see when visiting Brazil or Argentina, I`m glad that is on your list already because you can not miss that Spectacular scenic wonders of the world.
There are a tremendous number of things to do and enjoy in Rio, it is difficult to choose only a few things to do in a city that offers hundreds. But if you are short of time, be sure to do at least some of the ones below,no trip to Brazil would be complete without seeing at least one, or more of the following:
1. Corcovado - Christ the Redeemer-Every year, over 300,000 people visit the statue of Christ using the centenary Corcovado Train, the oldest tourist ride in the country. Once at the top, the huge white statue of Christ the Redeemer pays homage to Rio’s religiosity, and has become a symbol of the City and of its people, receiving all visitors with its arms open.
2. Ipanema-In addition to the wonderful stretch of beach with great surf and umbrellas, gorgeous people to watch, you can wander through the fashionable streets to discover chic boutiques, trendy restaurants and hip cafes. On Sundays, there is a hippie market in Praça General Osório where handcrafts, clothes and souvenirs from Rio can be found.
3. Copacabana-One of the most famous beaches in the world, Stroll along the world-famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches in Rio de Janeiro, where sun bronzed beauties share the sands with beach soccer and volleyball players. A perfect place to eat, drink, relax and people watch.
4. Pão de Açúcar - Sugar Loaf Mountain-One of Rio's most famous landmarks, it's the best place to view the city, sea and mountain ranges. Take the funicular ride up for a glorious view of the Guanabara Bay, Botafogo beach to the North and Copacabana to the South, with the city spread in between. Be sure to check out the old open-air cable car on display that was used in the '30s. There are vendors selling coconuts and juice, as well as a food and refreshments stand.
5. Pedra da Gávea -Located between São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca, Pedra da Gávea is a granite rock that rises 842 meters above sea level. Originally used as a lookout for ships in the Atlantic, it's now popular with rock climbers and those who want to see the glyphs carved into the rock.
6. Parque Nacional and Floresta da Tijuca-The best place to visit to get an idea of what Rio once looked like, with over 46 square miles of tropical rain forest, walking trails, stunning views of the city, waterfalls, creeks and wonderfully varied greenery. This is the largest urban reserve in the world and it only takes about 20 minutes to immerse yourself in nature. Serious hikers can climb to the 3320 feet summit of Pico da Tijuca, while others can simply enjoy the 115 feet waterfall, Cascatinha de Taunay, at the Alto da Boa Vista.
Visit the Corcovado and Pão de Açúcar, if you have a very restricted time frame, make sure to at least visit these two tourist attractions. The view from either one is wonderful, and they are Rio's most famous postcards.

Now about the money, cash in small bills is the most common form of payment in Brazil. If you have too many large bills, you will find clerks often don't have enough small bills to make change, especially in the small towns and touristy destinations.
Further, traveller's checks are not easily or cheaply cashed in Brazil, except at international airports. Brazilian banks may charge a large fee to cash in traveler checks and the process can take a while, so don't try it if you are in a hurry. It's good to be informed before you use this kind of service.
Eating out is a great bargain and a pleasure in Brazil. Service varies in quality but is usually inexpensive. Even in expensive Rio and in touristy areas where prices are marked-up, you can have an excellent meal at a good restaurant with drinks for US$10. With the current exchange rate, it is safe to say that food is about half as much in Brazil as in the US ( for a similar type and quality of meal).
Be prepared to haggle and beat down the price for most purchases during your Brazil vacation, whether you be looking for a hotel room or shopping at the markets.
When you arrive in Brasil, I suggest that you pick up a travel guide, "Guia Quatro Rodas" at any bookstand for about $US 17. It will give you a listing of hundreds of hotels in cities throughout all of Brasil.

Also, most bus stations have tourist information booths to help you find a place to stay.
Before buying your airline tickets and embarking on your holiday, note that tourists must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry to Brazil and citizens of most countries need a visa which is usually for 90 days.
A stamped entry card is also handed out upon arrival in Brazil. This should be guarded closely throughout your holiday travel as you will have major headaches if you lose it, possibly including a fine.
Tickets for domestic and international route buses are fairly cheap and most buses are of a high standard.
Airline tickets inside Brazil are expensive, try using the "build your trip" flight comparsion tool here:Flights to Brazil it will
search multiple websites and get you the best price.
I hope this helps.
Have a fabulous time in Brasil!
