Default Advice needed for trip to the Amazon

I am going to be in Brazil from the 22nd Jan (NOT FOR CARNIVAL!) and want to go to the Amazon and experience some of its amazing sights.
Whilst not afraid of just turning up and booking something I would prefer the comfort of booking before I get there.
Can someone give me advice as to what is the best way to see some of it? I am going to be there for around 5 days or so. I will be flying from Salvador.
I was thinking of a slow boat ride for a couple of days, a trek on foot and then a slightly quicker boat ride back.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Smile Re: Advice needed for trip to the Amazon

A journey to Brazil's Amazon is an experience of nature never to be forgotten.
The Amazon River and its tributaries comprise the world's largest river system and the Amazon basin houses the world's largest rainforest, an intricate system of countless species of plants, animals and insects. A journey to the region will be a challenging and fascinating experience that will introduce you to the voluptuous beauty and innate wisdom of the forest.

Here you have 4 sites where you can book your tour online
