Default Re: Moving to Rio de Janeiro

Hi Shura! Congratulations and this decision. Have you looked into different areas of the city? I know they kind of break it up in districts, with some of them being safer than others. "Favla" is the term there for the ghettos, which can be both dangerous and rich in culture all at the same time.

Do you know any Portuguese? You'll probably want to begin learning now if you don't. Do you have a job lined up or will you not be working? Perhaps you could do piano lessons and/or teach English when you arrive.

You should be able to take your cats with you, just make sure to get the information for what it takes to bring them abroad soon. The consulate website for Brazil should have the information you'll need. Airlines usually only allow a certain number of pets to fly in cabin so you may end up having to ship them in the cargo hold.

If you have any specific questions, please ask. Brazil is home to many expats, so you shouldn't have any problems fitting in and meeting people!
