| Hi All, I've been trying to get through to the Brazilian consulate in the UK but no dice. And I'm abroad at the moment so I can't visit. On a similar note, emails are going unanswered at the moment although they haven't in the past. I have been in Brazil as a tourist on a tourist visa for just under 180 days since July 1st 2009. I now have an opportunity to work in Brazil under a Business Visa with a UK based company. Could you clarify for me, if I have to wait until July 1st 2010 before I am allowed re-entry on a different type of visa (Business in this case)? Or, if I can enter the country before July 1st on a Business visa. Many thanks in advance. Christian |

| Hi Cristian, I read the requirements for a tourist visa and you should be fine for applying for a business visa as you're only allowed a maximum of 90 days of authorized stays in Brazil. |

| Hi Travadvice360, Thanks for the reply. However the advice you gave me doesn't really answer the question. I know that I'm only allowed 90 consecutive days at any one time (with extensions possible if requested locally). In addition to this you are also only allowed a maximum of 180 days in Brazil in a 365 day period. What I need to know is: Does the 180 days refer to either: 1). 180 days in any consecutive 365 day period regardless of visa type? or... 2). 180 days in any consecutive 365 day period under each visa type? The first would mean that as an individual I'm allowed a maximum of 180 days regardless how many visas I apply and receive. i.e: 180 days on a tourist visa, and no more between 01/01/2010 and 31/12/2010. The second would mean that I could actually spend more than 180 days in a consecutive 365 day period 'only if' I do it on different visas. i.e: 180 days on a tourist visa, and 90 days on a business visa between 01/01/2010 and 31/12/2010. Thanks for taking the time. Christian. |

| According to their website they say and I quote "Tourist visa holders are allowed to stay in the Brazilian territory a maximum of 180 days over a 12-month period". I can't say for certain to be honest...I know you said you tried to keep in touch with the embassy without much luck so, hopefully someone else in the forum can share some light on this. | My question is similar. I stayed a total of 140 days during 2010, having been given an extension locally at the fed police in airport, and they told me just leave the country in order to come back (this is questionable, they were just so nice and welcoming toward me) then i had left before the second visa expired, to plan my wedding, which will be in brazil, hopefully soon, so in love. now i don't know if i can come back or do i wait, and will i only be allowed back in during 2010 same year that is if my tickets do not put me as staying more than 180 days (non consecutive) in the same calendar year. btw I am still waiting (been outside brazil for a month now (in peru and USA)) to get answers from the brazil consul/embassy. |
