| The U.S. National Park Service is waiving all entrance fees to any national park such as Joshua Tree National Park. You won't only save the $25-per-vehicle entry fee on Tuesday--you can also attend a free stargazing event, with astronomers on hand to demystify the night sky. There is other fee-free days in 2011. They are as follows: January 15-17: Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday weekend April 16-24: National Park Week September 24: Public Lands Day November 11-13: Veterans Day weekend

| Moderator Jr Member | The National Park Service also sells annual passes. They're $80 per year and covers admission for up to 4 people in one vehicle. Seniors, age 62, and over, and can purchase the Senior Pass. It's just $10 a lifetime ($20 by mail). Holders also have discounts for camping and recreation at many sites. The Access Pass is free for those with permanent disabilities. Volunteers who have logged more than 500 hours also may be eligible for free passes. You can register in person at a national park or download the form and mail it in.

| there are several U.S. national parks where you never pay an admission fee. From the top of my head they are the Great Smoky Mountains, Hot Springs Arkansas, Virgin Islands, U.S.V.I, Wrangell-St. Elias, Alaska, Redwoods, California and Mammoth Cave Kentucky. I think there are a few other national parks that are free entry, but can't remember them now. |
