Pohono Bridge, Yosemite National Park, California

Where: At the far west entrance to Yosemite Valley, this arched bridge crosses the Merced River.
Arrive by way of California 140 or 120.

Stars of the show: The plentiful dogwood trees flaunt pinks and crimsons, while maples and black oaks become a brilliant yellow.

Color peak: Oct. 12 to 19

Where are you going to see the leaves this year? It looks like many of the state parks are hosting special events for leaf-peeping season. It looks like you can find some wonderful fall color wherever you're planning to roam in California.

Many of the state parks have some lovely shows of color, including the aptly named Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Its park rangers lead guided hikes on the weekend through the giant sequoias.
