California

The state of California is largest state in the US. Home to Disneyland, Napa Valley wineries, the Old Faithful Geyser, and more. It has small towns like Carmel providing its unique charm and larger cities like Los Angeles. Visit Yosemite National Park, surf in the Pacific Ocean or go to one of the many ski resorts.

Hmm, kinda slim pickings in between LA and SF when you're on I-5, huh? Are you bound to I-5? I know it's the most efficient way, but I would stay on the coast, if possible, on the drive up (and back), for obvious reasons. But usually the "scenic route" eats up lots more time. I assume you're from CA, so you know a lot of the area.

You can jump off I-5 and go to SF, but for the weekend that could prove to be more trouble than it's worth since driving in SF can be a nightmare. Are you taking 580 and 680 to Napa? If so there's there's San Ramon, which I've always liked but maybe because I have friends there.

Really, just do Highway 1 instead! You know you want to! Add another day to account for it, it'll be worth it.
