Hi, I am planning to take my family on a surprise visit to the Sonoma Valley for a wine tour. We will be spending a week in San Francisco and I would like all of us to visit a place which has nature in all its beauty. I have been to Sonoma Valley before and I loved it. But I am wondering how to make this surprise trip a really special one. Any ideas are welcome.

Sonoma Valley and Napa both are my favourite destinations in California and the wine tours in both these regions offer an excellent opportunity to discover the unique process of winemaking. Last June, as soon as I landed in San Francisco, 2 of my friends took me to Napa and we reached within 2hrs. We have enjoyed the tour and Napa valley wineries and went to friend's place. After 2 weeks we did a Sonoma valley wine tour and it was more interesting than the Napa wine tour and a less crowded to enjoy more. If you want to make a Sonoma Valley wine tour as a special one, then take your family for a hot air ballooning ride, it'll be the most surprise one and definitely a memorable one. Flying in a hot air balloon over the beautiful Sonoma Valley is one the popular things to do in California. For me, it was really an amazing experience. Sonoma Valley itself has so many things to see &do and all of them give surprises to your family. Also, you can take them to Pt. Reyes National Seashore, which is a beautiful nature preserve of California and it offers pleasurable events, so taste the variety of the world-renowned wines in Sonama and enjoy your vacation with your family.

I prefer Sonoma to Napa, lots of great restaurants and wineries and you're close to the coast. Check out Bodega Bay (Where "The Birds" was filmed). There are also some excellent hotels, from the Sonoma Mission Inn to the Farmhouse Inn. Enjoy!
