Bus travel from Buenos Aires to Santiago

has anyone done the Buenos Aires to Santiago bus ride before? would you recommend it, or is the plane a better option?

The plane is the quickest way to do the Buenos Aires to Santiago trip, taking around 2 hours and costing $200. If you're on a budget, the bus is the way to go!

Buses aren't always great, but the good news is that Argentina and Chile have the best ground transportation in South America.

You can choose from the AndesMar buses or TAC buses. Either way, it costs around $40 per person and the trip takes over 12 hours. You do get fed during the trip and the seats are fairly comfortable.

2011 update: bus and planes have the same prices. Both are comfortable. If you look for scenic vistas , choose the bus because Andes is breathtaking!
