| The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is the world's longest sea bridge spanning 26 miles long and standing on 5,200 pillars. The bridge links the city of Qingdao to the island of Huangdao. Jiaozhou Bay bridge took four years to build and cost around $1 billion and was entirely designed by Chinese engineers at the Shandong Gausu Group. The bridge will charge drivers 50 yuan ($5) for the crossing, but for now you will be able to drive for free. By the way, the Chinese have another bridge in the works in 2016, which is being built to link Hong Kong with Macau and Guangdong province and which will be around 30 miles long.

| Moderator Jr Member | Wow, I can't imagine difficulty of building a 26-mile bridge. That's really cool that it makes travel to the island much easier. How long will it be free to access?

| The first words that came to mind when I saw the bridge were "cool!" and "wow"...the Chinese can really build!" I came across this announcement about the longest sea bridge only last week but I believe the bridge is already operational. |

This bridge is very useful to boom the Industrial suburb of Huangdao. 450,000 tons of steel was used to construct to this bridge. It is approx 65 Eiffel towers. So, enjoy this longest china bridge. |

| It's amazing isn't, over 5000 pillars..surreal...I believe the Guinness World Records says the previous record holder for a bridge over water is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana. The Chinese bridge is more than 4km longer. |
