Cheap place to stay in Beijing for the Olympics?

Me and couple of friends are planning to go to Beijing for the Olympics, there have been a lot of demonstrations recently about this, and I am in two minds about whether I should still go with some mates or not, I was looking forward to this, as I have never been to China before, the Olympics in Beijing would be the perfect time to visit China, to network and hang out.
Another thing is finding cheap, clean and safe place to stay in Beijing for a week or so. I looked around but the prices are pretty high.
Well any ideas or tips would be much appreciated.
