going to hong kong

I am very interested in traveling to Hong Kong and am hoping to go during august. Hopefully for about a month.
I am from Canada and basically want to experience some of the cultures and lifestyles in Hong Kong.

For this reason as well as financial reasons I do not wish to stay in an expensive hotel. Would anyone here know a way to find some sort of local listing where i could maybe find a room for rent or something of the sort where I could stay with a family or such.

I would be willing to pay as well as help out in the household. I basically just need a place to sleep but I am not to aware of what sort of options are available in Hong Kong for this type of thing.

Any information or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hong Kong is a very popur detination in Asia. I had been travelled there several times. each time from different place, like from Bangkok, Shenzhen,Macau...

There are many hotel choices in Hongkong. for Budget hotels, i sugguest you to stay in Kowloon Mongkok area.

It sounds like a hostel would maybe suit you best. It will offer you the cheapest accomodation in Hong Kong, also as you interested in learning about the culture and lifestyle you might be intersted in reading about the history before you go.

Hong Kong is a fantastic place to go on vacation and staying there for a month will mean you'll have time to really experience the lifestyle for yourself. There are several different kinds of accomodation available but the cheapest option would have be a hostel. If this is something you would consider there are several available. The cheapest one i know of is Hong Kong Downtown Backpackers. They offer a bed for 7.65 dollars a night. That would be a room which sleeps 25 people with a shared bathroom. However they do offer smaller rooms for example a room which only sleeps 3 people, or a room on your own. To have a room alone the price would rise to $13.64 and again this would mean you'd be sharing a bathroom. To have a bathroom of your own the price would go up again to $18.89. This hostel and many more like it, is in the Kowloon area. It is very popular with tourists and there are lots of things to do. This is where the action is, hundreds of bars and clubs, restaurants and hotels line the streets, remaining active well into the early hours of the morning. I would suggest this would be the prefect area if living within a budget. For a small price you could spend the day enjoying everything Kowloon as to offer. If you were looking for a quieter area you could try looking at Hong Kong Island. This is where you would find the highest point in Hong Kong victoria-peak it is also where you will find some stunning beaches if your willing to travel a little further. There really are a huge number of hostels and hotels filling Hong Kong. I hope this helps, but if you would like to narrow it down to a more specific area i would be happy to recommend more hostels, or even a guest house if thats what you would prefer.

I've been to hongkong several times too. I love shopping there. It's a burden to get all the stuff home though!
