Costa Rica cell phone

Travelling to CR in Feb for 2 weeks SJO/Arenal/Monteverde/Manuel Antonio areas. Should I rent a TDMA or GSM cell? rent from car rental or ??? Any thoughts/comments appreciated. Thanks

Anyone have feedback on ACE Telecom Corp for cell rental? Thanks

Definately GSM. Are you currently with a GSM provider? if so you can possbily use your existing phone. I've rented phones down there since I'm on CDMA. Not sure about ACE but its a bit odd they don't list rates on their site. Its says contact us.

Thanks for the reply! I called ACE, rates: $19 total cell rental for up to 15 days, $1.49 min calls to US, $.99 min incoming, $.99 min calls in CR

For that price you could rent a Satellite phone and be anywhere and not worry about a cell connection. I've used Globalstar and the rates were $1.39/minute but I'm not sure what there rate are right now.

Thanks. I checked out GlobalStar, their Sat phone rental is $79.98 for 2 weeks (ACE GSM is $19 for 2 weeks), GlobalStar is $1.59 min. I don't plan on making alot of calls, so think I'll try ACE and will post feedback when I return. Thanks again for the responses.
