Costa Rica is the 2nd smallest country in Central America, you can easily see most of the country in a couple of weeks; no part of the country is more than nine hours by road from the capital, San Jose. Plus, the fantastic bus service makes it easy to get around.

There are many hostels and cheap hotels all over the country; you can even find hotels as low as $15 US a night and hostels starting at only $7 a night in San Jose.

Given the breathtaking and varied scenery of Costa Rica, there are so many things to see and do for free, for example you could visit the beautiful rainforests, mountains, beaches, parks, and rivers, as well as the wonderful cloud forest of Monteverde.

There are "fiestas" that are held year-round are really only an excuse to party. At the fiestas you will find activities such as live music, folk dancing, bullfighting, lantern parades, as well as a lot of eating and drinking. Although it may not be the most exciting food and drink in the world, Costa Rican cuisine is cheap and tasty.

Taking all of this into account and including the wonderful hot weather it really makes Costa Rica an ideal cheap travel destination
