I've done Machu Picchu which wasn't too bad, but for what I hear, the climb to Cotopaxi isn't easy so you need to be at a fitness level that is above average. There is also the typical issue about altitude sickness when climbing high altitudes that you won't how it may affect you until you start climbing.

If you plan to climbing Cotopaxi, or any mountains for that matter, I'd definitely suggest getting into shape, wear proper hiking boots and carry altitude sickness pills.

You can climb Cotopaxi if you have some stamina, are reasonably fit and acclimatise properly. It is not a technical climb at all but just a long hard slog. You need to climb at least two other nearby mountains first of around 5, 000m to acclimatise properly. Would be a good idea to also spend time eg in Quito before that. Allow yourself around a week to get ready then.
Machu Picchu isnt really the same thing at all
